CS Coaching Football

 (All years)

They have worked extremely hard this year and have had a successful year winning some trophies and entering a variety of competitions.

During sports events Bedonwell pupils behaviour is always excellent and they show great sportsmanship. They encourage each other and are always gracious in defeat as well as victory. We are a school that constantly strives for all pupils to achieve their full potential and are well respected within the Bexley borough.

Here are some of the events and successes we had during the academic year 2017/18:

Year 6 Football Team

Another year of football has flown past with our year 6 team coming to realise how high the standard of football in Bexley is.

With a very difficult league being contested at Goals this year, it took our players a while to adapt their games to continuous play and the ball bouncing back from the sides. After adapting, their quality shone through eventually coming second in the league.

The prestigious Kevin McCarthy Cup was in Bedonwell’s sights but unfortunately we came up against a very strong East Wickham team who managed to beat us 5-2 in the quarter finals.

As with last year, we entered a ‘B’ team into the Christmas Cup. The boys put in a great all round performance and finished in third place. This has been a fantastic opportunity for our players, as those who were not in the ‘A’ team but impressed us in this tournament were selected for future ‘A’ team games.

Year 5 Football Team

The year 5s, like the year 6s, came to realise the extremely high standard of football in Bexley this year.  We played a friendly against a very strong St Fidelis team, however, this was a good experience for the children to play together for the first time.

Like last year, we entered our year 5s into the Bexley 5-a-side tournament in which most schools send their year 6s. Mr Burton and myself were immensely proud of the team as they played some very strong schools. Their perseverance and commitment could not be faulted, they played very well with the other schools commenting on how good they were and that they could not believe these were year 5s.

We then played the annual Bexley year 5 tournament on a hot Saturday in May. Yet again, the boys came up against some extremely strong sides. We managed to progress into the plate competition, which we won last year, but unfortunately lost to Dulverton in the quarterfinals. Yet again, our team showed great spirit and determination even in the face of adversity. Well done boys – we are very proud of you!

Girl’s Football

It has been great to watch the girl’s football this year as the standard across the borough is constantly improving. We are very fortunate at Bedonwell to have so many girls who enjoy playing football and taking part in training sessions.

This has been a mixed year for our girl’s team as we came second in the Junior Reds tournament in May. We also came second in a hard fought league this year. We scored the most goals and Ruby was voted Bexley’s Player of the year. The girls were excellent and showed great sportsmanship throughout the football season.

We did win the inaugural Tony Linnet Cup beating our local rivals, Barnehurst, 4-0. The girls were fantastic throughout the tournament showing real togetherness to score last minute goals and continue to progress through the competition. Mr Burton and myself could not have been any happier or prouder!

Congratulations to all the girls who took part, they were a credit to the school and were also a source of inspiration to other girls within Bedonwell.

Cricket

Cricket has come a long way over the last couple of years at Bedonwell. We entered two teams into the Bexley School Games Regional Competition. Our ‘A’ team won all their games and managed to get through to the Bexley finals. The ‘B’ team worked extremely hard but came up against some very strong sides.

Unfortunately for the year 6s in the ‘A’ team, the finals were in the week of their School Journey to Norfolk. The ‘B’ team players stepped up and took the places of the children who were unable to attend. Although they were put in to a very difficult group, the children played excellently and were by no means disgraced throughout their games. After this round of games, teams were then put into mini-groups of similar ability. Bedonwell won one and lost one, eventually finishing 14thout of over sixty schools that entered the cricket competition.

 Netball

It was with great pleasure that we started a netball team this year and entered the Bexley Netball League. It was a huge success with lots of year 5s and 6s attending on Monday evenings, and year 4s in the Summer term.

For our first year in the league, the children showed brilliant skill and sportsmanship. After every game, they learnt something and carried this on throughout the year. This attitude led them to coming third in the league.

Well done to all the boys and girls who took part! It was great to see and hear about how you grew throughout the year and I know Miss Clark has already planned for the 2018/2019 season.

Daily Mile

For the second year running, Year 5 were invited to represent Bexley at the Vitality Westminster Mile. The children (and Mrs Bartlett) had great fun running past Buckingham Palace and down The Mall – what a magnificant experience!

The children were fantastic and thoroghly enjoyed the day even through the hot weather.

Swimming

For the second year running it is with great pleasure to announce that Bedonwell Juniors won the Swimming Gala! The children showed fantastic sportsmanship: cheering on their teammates, perseverance and exceptional attitude. Unfortunately, some children were not well on the day so others took their place at a moments notice. It was a brilliant performance from the children and Mrs Legg was immensely proud of all their achievements. The celebrations even stretched to a conga line in the swimming pool!

Orienteering

For the third year in a row, Bedonwell took part in the Bexley orienteering competition held at Danson Park. The children thoroughly enjoyed the event,  especially taking part in an activity that some of them have not previously experienced. Well done to all the year 6s who took part!

Change 4 Life

We have had another successful year of Change 4 Life. All the children who have taken part have enjoyed themselves and developed a range of skills. We have also continued to be a beacon school for Change 4 Life in the Bexley Borough.  We are very proud that our Change 4 Life provision has been used as a case study of best practice in a recent Youth Sports Trust publication.

School Games Day

We had another very successful School Games Day in which all the children demonstrated the school values. It was brilliant to see how encouraging and focused the children were both when they were participating in races and spectating.

The final scores are as follows:

1.     Green     159

2.    Blue          147

3.    Red.          148

4.    Yellow     148
